Communication Specialist Work
Oscar Vazquez Speaker Flyer
This announcement was created to publicize a speaker event by Oscar Vazquez at the University of Idaho. This flyer in particular went through several iterations, with different backgrounds, logo formats, and amount of words. Originally there was quite a lot of information we were trying to communicate about the event along with more background information on Oscar himself intended for the flyer as well. However, due to the size constraints of the flyer, we had to downsize the amount of information we intended to include while still giving our intended audience enough information to catch their interest.

Picnic & Hike Flyer
This is an example of one of the typical events the TRIO Club would host at the University of Idaho. There is less emphasis put upon the event's content and more emphasis intended to communicate what kind of event was taking place, where it would be located, and when it would happen. In this design, I decided to take a step back from strictly following the recommended U of I branding colors and instead I focused on representing the theme of the event itself, in this case, a picnic and hike! I wanted viewers of the flyer to be struck with a sense of nostalgia, for warm summer days at picnic tables with good food, a relaxing walk, and fresh air. Using imagery of wooden planks with folded checkered cloth worked well for bringing to mind a picnic. I then used those images to frame an action picture of a couple of people hiking, making sure to pay attention to the age of the individuals as well as where they were hiking so that it would match the age demographic we were aiming for and accurately represent the area in which the event would take place.
Skating Night Flyer
Like the flyer above this one, the skating night flyer is designed to focus on communicating the type of event, the location of the event, and the time of the event. To bring attention to the last two goals, I decided to center the time and location within a center box with supportive geometry, emphasizing the time first and foremost with color so that readers could determine if they would be available to attend. Assuming that they are available, this would then prompt them to read over the rest of the information that was provided. Similarly, I made sure to make the title yellow and increase its size so that it would be the first thing a viewer’s gaze would be drawn to. Last but not least I chose to include a stylized image that represents the flyer’s topic, passively reinforcing the title and solidifying the event.

TRIO Club Sticker Logos
To the left are two versions of the new TRIO logo I designed for the Club, edited slightly to work with stickers! For one sticker I decided to use a matte finish and use the typical square. For the example on the right, I decided to take inspiration from more modern stickers and went with a gloss finish and a cutout design!
